The Gathering Place Area is defined by its centerpiece: Gathering Place, a $465 million, 66-acre public park along the Arkansas River that has redefined what civic space can be. Adventure playgrounds, a boathouse, splash pads, skate ribbons, gardens, sports courts, and miles of trails weave through a landscape designed by world-class architects. It's nationally recognized and locally beloved — the rare public investment that delivered on every promise.
But the neighborhood is more than the park. Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness offers 300+ acres of rugged trail running and mountain biking just minutes away. The Cabin Boys Brew House pours craft beers in a taproom with park-adjacent views. The River Parks Trail connects the area to Riverside and Brookside by bike or foot, with a pedestrian bridge crossing that frames one of the best sunset views of the downtown skyline. The Gathering Place Area is where Tulsa shows what it looks like when a city invests in itself.
Neighborhood Rhythms
Early mornings belong to the runners and cyclists on the River Parks Trail — the path fills before sunrise with people chasing the river breeze. By mid-morning, families flood the Gathering Place playgrounds and the park's energy shifts to pure joy. Afternoons are for picnics on the Great Lawn, paddleboarding from the boathouse, or hitting the trails at Turkey Mountain. Evenings wind down with post-park beers at Cabin Boys or a slow walk along Riverside as the lights come up. On weekends, the Events Lawn hosts free concerts and festivals that draw the whole city.
Getting Here & Getting Around
The Gathering Place Area runs along Riverside Drive between roughly 21st and 41st Streets, with the Arkansas River forming its western edge. It connects naturally to Brookside to the east and Maple Ridge to the north. Turkey Mountain sits across the river to the southwest. The central location and trail connections make it one of the most accessible outdoor areas in Tulsa.
