Brady Theater

The Brady — now officially the Tulsa Theater, though plenty of locals still call it by the old name — is a 2,800-seat concert hall on the north edge of downtown that's been putting on shows since 1914. The interior is all ornate plasterwork and old-bones character, and the general-admission floor gives it the kind of standing-room intimacy you don't get at bigger rooms like the BOK Center a few blocks south.

What keeps it on regular rotation for Tulsa music-goers is the range of the booking calendar. In a single month you might see an indie rock headliner, a hip-hop tour stop, a country act, a comedy taping, and an electronic show. Because capacity tops out under 3,000, even nationally touring artists feel close — you're not watching a jumbotron from the cheap seats.

The venue sits in the Tulsa Arts District, which makes it an easy pairing with dinner beforehand at any of the spots along Brady or Cameron Streets, or a drink at Soundpony after the encore. Parking is scattered lots and street spots around the district; on bigger show nights, plan to walk a few blocks. It's less a night-out destination on its own and more the anchor of one — you build the evening around whatever's on the marquee.
