Summer in Tulsa
How to survive the heat and thrive from June through September.
Embrace the Outdoors (Early and Late)
Oklahoma summers are hot — genuinely, relentlessly hot. But Tulsans have mastered the art of living around the heat. The trick is timing: outdoor activities happen before 10 AM and after 7 PM. The River Parks trail at dawn, the Gathering Place at sunset, Woodward Park in the golden hour — that's summer living.
The Festival Calendar
Summer is festival season in Tulsa. Tulsa Tough in June transforms city streets into a cycling circus. The Gathering Place concert series fills Saturday evenings with free live music. And the weekly farmers' markets — especially Cherry Street on Saturday mornings — are peak-season affairs with tomatoes that taste like actual tomatoes.
Cool Down
When the mercury climbs past 100, retreat to the museums: Philbrook, the Woody Guthrie Center, and ahha Tulsa are all air-conditioned sanctuaries with world-class content. Or do what Tulsans do — find a patio with shade, order a cold drink, and wait it out.
Summer Nights
Tulsa's summer nights are the city's secret weapon. The heat breaks around 8 PM, the patios come alive, and the sky goes pink-orange in a way that makes you understand why people photograph Oklahoma sunsets. Get out after dark. This is when summer Tulsa is at its best.
